28mm Forge World Hobbit Hole

Here is a piece of terrain I made a little while back. I've made a few of these before so I had an idea of what I wanted to achieve.

Forge World produces two variations of front on a thick single piece of resin back to back, along with a chimney and a couple of windows. if you are very careful I found you can cut in two along its thickness to get two fronts from the one piece, which enables you to make two Hobbit Holes.

I wanted the front to be stepped so it wasn't flat, and with the chimney on the front somewhere. I also wanted to add a bit of other interest by changing part of the front with the other style of front

I started off with making changes to the chimney, so I added a piece of plasticard so it could stand upright. This wouldn't be seen when completed so ignore the fact that it hasn't any brick detail. This would then go on the right hand end.

I then cut the front on the left hand timber upright so I could bring this out and change the front from being flat. A piece of Wills Limestone plastic sheet with a timber frame would finish off this detail.

I then cut the left hand end of the other front and added this on. The resin logs are from my own resin designs which would be added at the end.

Then on to the roof, Some thick card for timber shingles were glued on and then a couple of coats of watered down PVA was applied to the shingles to give it some extra hardness.

Here is the front ready for the extras like the base and foam hill. The cobbled flooring was another sheet from the Wills range. This was all glued onto a piece of 3mm hardboard and the foam hill was roughly cut and glued onto the resin front with polyurethane glue. This stuff expands so I had to be careful with how much I added. When cured any excess was trimmed with a knife, then a light sand of the hill, before I applied a thin coat of wall filler. Sand applied with a coat of watered down PVA to seal, before a coat of brown paint, and onto the final painting stage.

The two small boxes are from my own resin designs which cover the plasticard added to the chimney. The 28mm Hobbit miniature is from Midlam miniatures https://www.midlamminiatures.co.uk/

I hope you like the pictures...

Until next time....
