Here is a small gallery of my latest building in my Old West project. My inspiration for this mostly came from the Armadillo station off the fabulous RDR2 game, and I also liked the idea of a large boarding platform from the Once Upon a Time in the West movie.
So for this building I chose a kit from Empires at War. I took their Old Pioneers Cabin kit and set about modifying it (as I usually do). I changed the front veranda, replacing all the timber beams to slightly thicker ones and lifted the height very slightly to make it easier for miniatures to be placed. I added the rear veranda and all the timber beams for support. I added small metal pins to strengthen the joints on the timber beams front and back, and also to simulate nails. I added the ticket office extension, made from coffee stirrers, and cut the end wall to give access to the ticket office. I then added the rear platform from offcuts of all my mdf sprue leftovers from previous builds. I modified the roof to be one complete piece for easier lift off during game play, and added roof supports from some pieces of mdf. I then added roof shingles from pieces of card and crafted a sign with timber beams, which I again strengthened with small metal pins. The ticket office wall was cut from offcuts of mdf I had laying about. That for me is a good reason to keep a selection of sprue and building offcuts in case you may need them again at some point in the future. The sign writing was done in my usual style of printing out the text in Word, and then using a very sharp scalpel cutting out the lettering. I find this makes it easier for me to paint on the lettering, and get the position/spacing correct.
WIP photos included, I hope you like the pictures...
